About the National Cancer Society

The National Cancer Society (NCS) is a non profit organization founded in 2004 to help raise awareness on the early detection, treatment and hopefully, prevention of cancer in our small nation of islands.

Founding members of The National Cancer Society were originally affiliated with the Turks & Caicos Cancer Foundation in Grand Turk, which was activated in 2003.

The National Cancer Society consisting of cancer survivors and concerned residents, is supported through funding raising programs (including its annual banquet) and thoughtful corporate citizens. An Income and Expenditure Statement of all funds received is presented to the public annually.

As a result of continuous growth in membership, in March 2005, NCS opened its permanent headquarters in Providenciales, where large quantities of educational literature on all types of cancers and other cancer related items, are available to the public.

The National Cancer Society has succeeded in developing local programs with community involvement throughout the Turks & Caicos Islands; such as walkathons, health and nutrition forums, clinical screening sessions, etc. In 2005, NCS purchased a new mammogram machine to be donated to, and housed at, the government owned Myrtle Rigby Health Complex (MRHC) in Providenciales. This equipment is expected to be operational in the immediate future and will serve all residents of the Turks & Caicos Islands. NCS is thankful and much appreciative for this opportunity to be of assistance to this magnitude.

Recently there has been increased interest from members of the community wishing to become involved through sponsoring and participating in The National Cancer Society's functions. With this level of support generated, NCS hopes to extend its awareness programs to more effectively benefit all residents of our Turks & Caicos Islands.
